Starlites Compete at Dance Worlds 2014

May 8, 2014

The Starlites Open Pom team from the Huron Physical Arts Center proudly represented the State of Michigan and was one of only 8 teams from the U.S.A. to compete in the Open Pom category April 26, 2014 at the Dance Worlds International Dance Championships, Epcot Center, Walt Disney World, Florida.

The four member team was awarded an at-large bid to attend this prestigious international competition on March 2, 2014 at the Champion Spirit National Dance Championships in Chicago, Illinois.

The team competed against 27 other teams from around the world including teams from Scotland, Japan, Slovenia, Mexico, Ireland, Australia, Venezuela, Norway, Chile, Wales, Colombia and various teams from around the U.S.  Besides the pom category, the Dance Worlds competition also includes hip hop and jazz categories.  This event is solely for senior high and open teams (ages 14 and up) including all male, all female and co-ed competitive teams.

The team placed 16th out of 27 teams in the semi-finals, but fell short of making the final round of competition.  The final round consisted of the top three teams from each country represented.

The teams were then treated to three days at the Walt Disney World parks.

Team members include Aleena Davis (19), Tianna Jones (17), Younique Williams (16) and Dana Click (15).  Congratulations Starlites on a job well done!
