This year we have one Starlite that is celebrating her high school graduation from Port Huron High School.

Tianna Jones has been in our Starlites program since she was 6 years old. This is her 12th year with Starlites.   Tianna has been a major part of our teams over the years participating on numerous local, state, regional, national and even international championship teams. Four years ago we added our open team to our roster which can include athletes ages 14 and up. Three out of four years that team has been invited to attend the prestigious Dance Worlds International Dance Championships at Walt Disney World in Orlando, Florida. The first year we received a bid to take our open hip hop routine and that placed third out of all the U.S. teams. The 2nd and 3rd year, we received bids to take our open pom routines. Tianna has been a part of all of those teams.

She has been a faithful, loyal, dedicated, hard working young lady whose dance ability speaks for itself. Outside of the Starlites program, Tianna has participated in the Port Huron High School’s football and basketball cheer program; she ran track for 2 years, and has participated in the powerlifting program at Port Huron High, recently being named the Powerlifting State Champion of which is the first girl at PH to accomplish this feat.

She is a member of the National Honors Society with a GPA of 3.5 and above over all four high school years. She is the recipient of the Edwina Melton Scholarship and the Geographic Region Award which is an $8000 scholarship.

Tianna helped instruct  HPAC’s 10-week DEA Dance program at Keewahdin Elementary school which is a grant funded program thru the Drug Enforcement Administration.  DEA Dance is a 10 week free dance program which offers hip hop dance to 4th and 5th graders teaching them physical activity as an alternative to violence and drugs.

Tianna plans to attend Oakland University in the fall to double major in dance and business.  She auditioned for and was chosen to be a team member on the Oakland University’s Dance Team.    Tianna expressed what  Starlites has meant to her over the past 12 years and in her words..”Starlites has had a huge impact on my life and I wouldn’t have grown up to be the girl I am today without being a part of the team. Starlites is and always will be my second family”.

The Starlites Dance Family and Huron Physical Arts Center extends their best wishes to Tianna as she enters college.  We will miss you!!!!!
